Join us on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, from 6PM to 8PM at Sugar Water for a hands-on Sourdough Starter Class designed to teach you everything you need to know about starting, maintaining, and using a sourdough starter. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced baker looking to refine your skills, this class will give you the confidence to bake your own delicious, homemade bread.







What You’ll Learn


Sourdough baking begins with a healthy and active starter—a simple mixture of flour and water that ferments over time to create natural wild yeast. During this class, we’ll cover:

• How to create a sourdough starter from scratch

• The science behind fermentation and wild yeast

• How to properly feed and maintain your starter

• Common troubleshooting tips for sourdough success

• The next steps—how to use your starter for baking


You’ll get hands-on experience with mixing, feeding, and understanding the texture, aroma, and activity of a thriving sourdough starter.

Learning is always better with great food! While you absorb the fundamentals of sourdough, enjoy some sourdough bread and discard treats. Pair your learning experience with a warm cup of coffee or tea as you soak in the atmosphere of Sugar Water’s cozy and welcoming space.

I wanted to know without a doubt what I was feeding my children so I decided to give it a try! It was a new challenge for me to understand how and why sourdough is what it is and I was determined to figure it out for the health of my family! As dramatic as this sounds sourdough gave me just a little more control over the ability to protect my family from everything going on around us. I can’t control the world or the negativity surrounding us, but I can control what’s going into our bodies.”
