Let’s get together and learn the basics of making the perfect sourdough. Whether you are a pro or new to sourdough this class will be informative and fun. If you’ve already dipped your hands into the world of sourdough by creating and feeding a starter, it’s time to level up your bread-making skills. Sugar Water is excited to host “Beyond the Starter.”. This immersive, hands-on workshop is designed for anyone ready to move from the jar to the dough bowl and start crafting beautiful, crusty loaves from scratch.
Join us at Sugar Water at The Washington Hotel for an evening of flour-covered fun, skill-building, and of course, plenty of tasty bites. You’ll learn to mix, fold, shape, and ferment your own dough while deepening your understanding of the science and timing behind sourdough baking.

Kearstin, 36, “I had seen a video talking about all the stuff they are putting in our food and how much can be made with sourdough and how it literally had 3 ingredients in the bread and nothing else. I wanted to know without a doubt what I was feeding my children so I decided to give it a try! It was a new challenge for me to understand how and why sourdough is what it is and I was determined to figure it out for the health of my family! As dramatic as this sounds sourdough gave me just a little more control over the ability to protect my family from everything going on around us. I can’t control the world or the negativity surrounding us, but I can control what’s going into our bodies.”

Led by our local sourdough enthusiast, this class is perfect for anyone who’s already familiar with maintaining a sourdough starter. We’ll guide you through every stage of the process, from building your dough to prepping it for proofing and baking. You’ll learn techniques for:
Properly mixing and hydrating your dough
Understanding bulk fermentation and folding methods
Shaping dough for different loaf styles
Preparing your bread for cold proofing and baking
Each participant will leave with their own portion of ready-to-bake sourdough dough, and the confidence to try baking at home.
